In short,thrift makes poor men rich and extravagance makes rich men poor.

With the improvement of the living standards, many people are no longer interested in the simple life style and some of them even feel ashamed to be thrifty. What they pursue is the latestfashion. In their eyes, thrift is already out of style. However, still other people insist that thrift is a good virtue. They say that the strong power of production doesn t mean that we aresupposed to a live a luxurious life, because our natural resources are limited and some of them even are on the decline. Moreover, they hold that waste may lead to degradation of socialatmosphere and environmental pollution as well. As to me, I prefer the latter opinion. I believe Waste not, want not. The truth of this saying is not to give up comfort but to enhanceefficiency.
In fact, economic growth depends normously on saving. Besides, there are still millions of Chinese living under poverty line. We can never afford reckless waste. Therefore, it is no doubtthat thrift is still a good virtue that we should not give up.

As is known to all, waste has become a more and more serious problem. We can easily see many persons dump a lot of food in the garbage can. Some persons spend thousands of yuan buyingfashionable clothes and so on.
The negative effects of waste can be shown in the following aspects. In the first place, it makes some students dependent on their parents for money, which is harmful to their development. Ifthey don’t learn to support themselves, they will be “useless people” when they graduate. In the second place, it is not easy for our parents to arrange for our schooling. Last but not theleast important, there is no denying the fact that our country is still poor. There are many people who cannot go to university and many poor people still need our help.
As far as I am concerned, I should set a good example to reduce waste on social. First of all, I will refrain from wasting anything, from food to stationery. What’s more, I’m determined tocall on more schoolmates to fight against waste. Only through these measures can we hope to reduce waste.
